Obesity and the Children Debate

Posted by in General | Obesity
Obesity is something that the nation as a whole is facing. There are many things that contribute to why our children are so obese these days. Let’s look at what some of those reasons are and just what government is trying to do about this.
As mentioned above, there are many reasons for which children are obese. There is the debate as to whose fault it is. Parents blame the fast food industries for not having enough choices in terms of healthy food. There are the health food industries that tell parents that they don’t have to bring their kids there to eat every single day.
Schools have been blamed for this as well as they feed them all these processed foods as well as the fact that when children go into high school and middle school, they find that in many instances, they set up a bar where the kids can get unhealthy items and they buy this stuff rather than a healthy lunch.
Many say that part of the problem rests in the television and other games that require kids to be seated to play. Therefore, some stations go off the air so kids have to take a break. Some games are requiring movement like it would normally take. Many more things are being done too.
There are many changes that are being made as the nation sees obesity as an epidemic. The first thing that they are doing is that they are educating both parents and health care professionals. This is one thing that is being done. Kids are also being placed on diets and they are doing away with vending machines as well as talking about taxing those places selling junk food. The last resort is that in some cases, child welfare is being called in as many say that a parent that let’s their child be increasingly obese is practicing neglect. How much further do they have to go to get the message across and see a change? One can only imagine and time can only tell.
